The National Capital Dahlia Society was established almost 80 years ago by a group of gardeners in the Washington, DC area to share their pleasure in growing and exhibiting dahlias, a flower of spectacular beauty and boundless diversity.
The NCDS holds monthly meetings to "talk dahlias," exchange plants and tubers and prepare for two annual shows that provide opportunities to engage in gentle competition and to display dahlia blooms to the public. The Midsummer Show is held in August at the Montgomery County, MD Agricultural History Park in Derwood MD. The Fall Dahlia Show has traditionally been held at Brookside Gardens in Maryland
The Nordahl Exhibition Garden for displaying outstanding dahlia varieties is also located at the Agricultural History Park. More than 100 dahlia plants are set out in May and bloom from August til frost. [closed for the winter season]
More information about the dates, locations and times of NCDS events are located on this Website and in the Dahliagram newsletter, which is published for NCDS members 11 times a years.
